THINGS I'VE MADE

Since March 2013

Oilcloth Messenger Bag
Finished - 2nd April 2013

This bag was pretty much my introduction for starting to make bigger items. It's really pretty and everyone always comments on it, which is really nice as it boosts your self-confidence! My sister's friend's Mum would even like me to make one for her! Talk about good response! It is mainly made of oilcloth, (Obviously! Clue in the name!) so it is wipe clean and very practical. Also, it has a white flowery lining, and one of the strap sides is tied on, lovely effect. The only things I would change about it are the length of the strap, (It's just a tiny bit short!) make the flap a bit longer and I would probably add some pockets in too. You will probably need a Sewing machine for this as there is quite a lot to sew by hand and oilcloth can be too thick at times. I used Grandma's, as I don't have one yet. On the whole, a good result for a first try! To open the tutorial for this bag, click here.

Oilcloth Wash-bag
Finished - 6th April 2013

This wash-bag was made with the same oilcloth as my messenger bag, I had quite a bit left and wanted to use it up. A wash-bag was a good idea because it doesn't matter if you got it wet in the bathroom as the oilcloth is water-proof. I also lined it with oilcloth too, in case something spilt inside. I did this at home, so I had to do it by hand. This wasn't ideal as there were two pieces together, (and in some cases four!) so it was hard work getting the needle through! It is lovely and I really like it though it was difficult! And if you have fallen in love with this, the tutorial is here!

Elastic Waist Skirt
Finished - 9th April 2013

I really really really loved making this skirt! It was the first item of clothing that I ever made and I adore it! I have only ever made small things like cushions and bunting, so this was a big step in a different direction. I was originally going to make a skirt that had a shirring elastic waist, but decided against this as it would probably be too hard. For a first time clothes-maker anyway. Back to the skirt, the fabric that I made this from is absolutely gorge! If you look closely, then you should be able to see that it has cute little cream hearts on! Ahh! I have plenty of fabric left so I am currently making a flat bow belt to go with it. This, my belt and a cream blouse? Great! Here's the tutorial!

Flat Bow Belt
Finished - 26th April 2013

First thing to say, this belt is gorgeous! I absolutely love it! It really isn't very difficult to make and looks really cute when its finished. It is mainly sewn on the machine, but parts of the bow have to be done by hand as there are lots of layers to get through. This belt involves quite a lot of pressing a folding, if you decide to make it, make sure there is no more pressing to do before putting your iron and everything away! The only problem with mine is that the top stitching around the belt isn't very straight. However, that can be sorted when I learn to use the machine better! What makes this belt even better is that the tutorial is by Lauren Guthrie from the Great British Sewing Bee! For more information on the Sewing
Bee, I have a page on it! Anyway, this is the link for the tutorial! Unfortunately, you can't see the bow very well in the picture, but there are some better images on the tutorial.
